

Mr. Allen "Dean" Sordyl, of Mt. Prospect, IL, a devoted husband, father, uncle and friend, passed away at home surrounded by family on July 6, 2023. Dean was born in Highland Park, IL on November 13, 1945 where he spent his formative years.
Dean was an Evans Scholar and proud graduate of Michigan State University as a Mechanical Engineer. He worked for Shell Oil, Fiat Allis, Searle and Signode Corporation as an engineer before changing careers. He enjoyed working with his hands and used his creative skills and engineering background to become a Contractor doing home remodeling and repair.
As an active member of St Joseph the Worker in Wheeling and for the past 18 years at St. Cecilia in Mt. Prospect he served in a variety of ministries including Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Finance Council member, and Building/Grounds Committee.
A Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, he served as Grand Knight in both Regina Council and Holy Rosary Council as well as the recent past Treasurer of Holy Rosary Council. In Seton Assembly he was honored to be a past Navigator and Comptroller. As a past two term District Deputy he enjoyed meeting people from around the state of Illinois.
He joined other Knights at St. Edna Church in the Disaster Assistance Ministry (DAM). Together they assisted the post disaster areas of Biloxi, MS, New Orleans, LA, Joplin,MO and Cedar Rapids, IA.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa, father Allen, mother Marjorie, and sister Gayle.
Allen is survived by his spouse Patricia, son Brian (Denise) and many nieces, nephews.
A special thank you to Journey Care Hospice who provided much needed support in his final weeks at home.
Visitation Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 9:30 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 800 S. Meier Rd., Mt. Prospect, IL. Interment private.
