Those closest to Andrew, nicknamed Andy or Addi, can easily tell a story about him. His sharp humor and wit. His truly gracious acts — the good deeds he did for so many. His kindness and empathy, rooted in his upbringing as a displaced and poor refugee of the Donauschwaben in Europe. He did not give of himself for glory or attention, but rather because it was the right thing to do. Just as notable was the steady order he brought to life: thoughtful, prepared, and attentive to details, he approached each day with a sense of purpose and careful planning. Through hard work and dedication, he built an amazing life, both in his career and with his family. In the years he shared with his wife, Elfrieda, Andrew found particular joy in traveling the world together, visiting every continent and meeting all kinds of people. While his wife delighted in animals, he delighted in people — unique individuals from all walks of life — and he embraced new places with a spirit of curiosity and respect.
Andrew is survived by his children, Andrea (James) Leppert and Kenneth Hain (Catherine Burns); grandchildren, Michael, Colin and Logan; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elfrieda; his son, Michael; his parents; and siblings.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A time of sharing will take place during the visiting hours, beginning at 3:00 PM. Inurnment private
