

Anna Marie "Annie" Hornof, 97, former longtime resident of Mt. Prospect and Arlington Heights, was born on August 3, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William and Margaret (Ford) Schell. She married her late husband, Frank, on September 6, 1947 and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage until his death in 1995. She was a loving daughter-in-law to the late Frank and Harriet (Kuberski) Hornof. She peacefully departed this world on August 18, 2023, where she was residing at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, Illinois.
Anna was a devoted spouse and mother, finding joy in creating a warm and loving environment for her family. She also served as the Church Secretary at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Arlington Heights from 1971 until she retired in 1986. Her nurturing nature, faith and sense of community extended beyond the walls of her home, as she dedicated countless hours as an active member of Our Lady of the Wayside parish where she participated in the Women's Club and the Welcoming Committee, warmly embracing newcomers and helping them feel at home.
Anna touched so many people in her life. Anna's legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will be forever cherished by her treasured surviving relatives, including her children, Donna (Daniel) Maguire, Gerald (Karen Scharre) Hornof, Diane (Steve) Abram and Debbie (Daniel) Young; her grandchildren Kristin (Justin), Brian (Megan), Daniel (Katie), Alex (Erica), Stephanie (Shad), Jeffrey (Rachel), Jennifer (Andrew), Hillary, Lindsay and Michael (Laura); her great grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Caleb, Charlotte, Claire, Abraham, Will, Connor, Dylan, Juliette, Owen, Annie and Shiloh; and her many extended family members. Her devotion to her grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her young and active throughout her later years. She loved spending time with each of them, especially at their activities including sports and music. Additionally, she enjoyed many memorable adventures with her family traveling to numerous states and countries. Wherever she went, she was the perfect traveler and always had a smile on her face.
She was also preceded in death by her brother William (Dolores) Schell; and her sister-in-law Elaine (Walter) Wiebe.
A Funeral Mass to honor and celebrate Anna's remarkable life will be held at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 432 S. Mitchell St. Arlington Heights on October 14, 2023 at 11:00 am. Anna's family will receive guests in the Gathering Room from 10:00 am until the time of Mass.
