Anthony John "Tony” Adams (endearingly called Sonny by his southside family and friends), 93, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, longtime resident of Northbrook, Illinois passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026.
Born on January 1, 1933, in Chicago Illinois, Tony was the son of Frank and Nellie (nee Marynowski) Adams. Tony graduated from Northern Illinois University earning his master’s degree in School Business Administration. Tony enjoyed a 28-year career as the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services at Northbrook School District 28 where he was well-respected and often sought out for guidance from his peers. Upon retirement, Tony served as the Northfield Township Treasurer for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials for 53 years, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and enjoyed traveling through Europe.
Tony was an avid golfer, reader and loved fishing, above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a kind and caring father and grandfather to his children and four grandchildren.
Tony was a devoted husband of Susan M. Adams for 60 years until her passing in 2024. He lovingly spent every day caring for her in the last few years of her life ensuring she had a dignified and comfortable transition. He was also proceeded in death by his sister, Eileen Adams Dawson.
Tony is survived by his sister Dorothy Adams Bartczak, his children Nancy and Frank (Kimberly) who will forever cherish the memories they created together. Tony was the proud grandfather to his four grandchildren: Anthony, Frank, Angelina and Michael Adams
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, 10 :00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL. There will be a 1 hour visitation at the church before the mass begins.
Interment private will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
