

Arlene Theresa Montalbano, born on October 24, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Theresa (nee Gabriel) Schmidt was “Oma” to her grandchildren and “Ar” to her friends. She was very proud of her Austrian decent and loved speaking her first language, German. She died on February 21, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Arlene was a dedicated wife for 55 years to her high school sweetheart, the late Charles (Chuck) Montalbano. Arlene was a proud 1950 graduate of Steinmetz High School on the Northwest side of Chicago and was very active in its Alumni Association.
Arlene’s life interests were focused primarily on family and secondarily on her career. She began her career as an Administrative Assistant in the steel industry. She paused her career for several decades to raise her four children, retiring from United Airlines as an Accounting Clerk.
Since 1967 Arlene was a loyal and active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights. Her passions included cooking and baking. She was also an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Blackhawk games (a season ticket holder for many years), and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.
Arlene is survived by her children Curt (Mayra), Michael (Carmen), Chuck (Misty) and Melissa Montalbano; her grandchildren Michael Vito, Nicholas Anthony, Hailey, Jasper, Sophia, Gabrielle, Travis, Joseph and Caitlin as well as her three great-grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Charles A. Montalbano and her parents.Visitation Friday, February 24, 2023 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Glueckert Funeral Home 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights, IL 60004 and on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 11:30am until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church 1234 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
