I think what has been so lovely for me is having the pleasure of being one of the many Colorado friends Liz has~ I've gotten to enjoy that Hafer Adventurousness with Liz many times. Unbelievable backpacking trips into the Escalante and Grand Mesa areas of Utah. Full on Indiana Jones, flash floods and the life saving "yellow bucket" kept us chugging along till we could cross the river again! Birthdays at the base of Coyote Canyon... Sardines, cheese, lovely yellow bandana table cloth... UFO's... Crazy faceprinting and running around like kids... Oh and doing the big "fake out" of a race sag wagon official in the trusty 4 Runner way up on the Imogene Pass. My. arm out the window casually asking all these intrepid runners how they were doing! I only knocked off one of her truck hitches on that wild ride! She actually talked me into this once, can any one spell "false summit"!!!!! I could go on and on and on... SO many stories.
It has been so cool to know about this remarkable family, to be the beneficiary of Aud's Lemon Piccata chicken. Every year I relished the stories Liz would come back with from her decades! of ANNUAL cruises with Mom. Hearing about how she would stake out "their spot" ASAP. I can just see Liz flying around this massive ship with towels in hand, heading out on her always successful mission of getting the perfect spot on deck!!! Liz in her magnificence being the best dang daughter a Mom could ever have. I have never witnessed such a powerful rich and loving bond between a mother and daughter...
Aud, you are in my prayers. I'm so grateful to be a friend of your daughter. You and your husband did such a good job with her. I also really want you to know I will be there for her during this powerful time of loss, grief, gratitude. I've got her back, I want you to know that, may it bring you even a bit more peace... Mom and I shared SO many adventures together. One time I surprised her with this heart of shells. I had to work fast since the tide was rolling in!
