Of Arlington Heights
Barry Daniel Antonson was born on September 24, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to R. Daniel and Mary (nee Chomezko) Antonson. He died Saturday, February 26, 2022, in Arlington Heights.
Barry attended Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago and was proud to attend college. He fondly remembered his days at UIC’s Navy Pier campus and his time spent at U of I in Champaign-Urbana, before ultimately graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Millikin University. Early in his career he worked as an Engineering Manager for General Telephone & Electric and Engineering Director for Avon Products. He was also a top salesperson for Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce, Loeber Motors/Chicago, and spent several years as an Independent Trader and Technical Analyst at the Chicago Board of Trade. Barry went on to achieve a Master’s of Business Administration from Loyola University, and later became the Precious Metals Purchasing Director for Kester Solder, a division of Litton Industries. Most recently, Barry worked as a Self-Employed Commodities Trader.
Barry was a legacy member of the Chicago Board of Trade as well as President of the American Tin Trade Association (1991-1993) and Director of the Midwest Chapter of the International Precious Metals Institute. He was also a member of the North Shore Corvette Club and local Mustang associations. When at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Barry spent much of his leisure time studying the financial markets and enjoying his vintage Corvette and Mustang. Additionally, his hobbies and interests included cars and airplanes, fitness, old movies, classic rock, folk music, and golf. Barry will be fondly remembered for his broad knowledge and enthusiasm for history, as well as for current events: his family jokingly named him, “Mr. Trivia.” His greatest source of pride has been his wife and his daughter.
Barry is survived by his spouse of 43 years, Barbara (nee Stearns); and daughter, April (Ben) Antonson Sorce.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
