

Bernard J. Moore MD, of Arlington Heights passed away June 13, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his wife, family and friends. He was born Dec 10, 1926 in Chicago to Edward and Mary McDonald Moore. In 1944, with his parent’s permission, Dr. Moore enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. He served as a Pharmacist mate aboard a mine sweeper in the South Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He returned to civilian life in 1946 and enrolled at Marquette University where he graduated in 1953 with his Medical degree. Dr. Moore came to Arlington Heights in 1956 and joined the general practice of Dr. Robert Muench. He practiced general medicine for 19 years. In 1966 he began his affiliation with Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village as a member of the medical staff. In 1971 he was elected President of the medical staff and from 1972 to 1975 he was the Chair of Family Practice. In 1974 he became the Director of Emergency Room Services where he served until 1987. He was also elected Physician of the Year in 1985. In 1987 he became Medical Director and remained in that position until he retired in 2000. He returned to the post of Medical Director for a short period before retiring again in 2003. Dr. Moore is survived by his loving wife Barbara Moore; his five children Judie (Rich) Green, Edward (Teresa) Moore, Thomas Moore, Mary Locasto, James (Partner Ron Gubin) Moore and preceded in death by his son Tim Moore ; his three step children Larry (Linda) Swartz, Sharon (Tim) Halas and Susan (Bruce) Tenuta; his seventeen grandchildren Emily Green, Michael Green, Gianluca Locasto, Marina Locasto, Zach Moore, Annica Moore, James Moore, Jennifer (Tony) Bender, Eric Swartz, Natalie (Matthew) Russell, Jaclyn (Tom) Kling, Michael Tenuta, Matthew Tenuta, Kathryn Tenuta, Stephanie (Alan ) Jorzak, David Grandt, Meredith (Bryan) Burgess; great grandfather of 6; dear brother of the late Mary Josh, Kathleen, Edward, Maurice and Donna (Fran) Dominey. Visitation will be Sunday June 19 from 2-6 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home 2000 E. Northwest Hwy. Arlington Heights. Family and friends will gather Monday June 20 at 9:45 AM at St. Julian Eymard Church 601 W. Biesterfield Road Elk Grove Village for funeral mass at 10 AM Interment private.
