

Rev. Charles L. Maranto, CSV, priest of the Viatorian Community died on March 18, 2011. He was born July 24, 1922 in Chicago to Joseph and Mary Maranto. He is survived by his brother Vincent of Wheeling, IL, and his sister Sally (the late Thomas) Monsier of Chicago and his nieces Cynthia Handrup, Denise Lynch and Claudette Monsier. Fr. Maranto pronounced his first vows with the Clerics of St. Viator in 1943. He earned a BA in Latin from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and an MA in Latin from Loyola University, Chicago. He studied at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado, and was ordained a priest in 1950. He served as teacher at Cathedral Boys/Griffin High School, Springfield, IL (1950-1964), St. Viator High School, Arlington Heights, IL (1964-1968), Bishop McNamara High School, Kankakee, IL (1968-1970). From 1970 until 1976, he was Associate Pastor at Maternity BVM in Bourbonnais, IL. He served in Springfield, IL as Associate Pastor at St. Joseph Parish (1973-1976), Chaplain at Memorial Medical Center (1973-1976) and Chaplain at St. John's Hospital from 1976 until his retirement in 1992. Visitation will be at the chapel at the Viatorian Province Center, 1212 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL on Monday, March 21 from 9:30 am -11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Clerics of St. Viator 1212 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
