Dr. Christopher H. Costis was born May 15, 1927 in Pallouriotissa, Cyprus to Constantinos and Maria (nee Kanthopoulos) Hadjiconstantinou. He died Monday, March 16, 2020 at Seasons Hospice at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago
Dr. Costis came to Chicago in 1948 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was married to Peggy in 1953. He attended the University of Illinois and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1960. Dr. Costis co-founded the Hellenic American Dental Society in 1963 and served as President in 1969. As a fervent activist for his homeland, he was President of the Justice for Cyprus organization as well as many other Greek and Cypriot political and fraternal organizations. Dr. Costis served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He was the beloved husband of the late Peggy H. Costis, nee Makropoulos; loving father of Dr. Dennis (Jan) Costis, John Costis, and Dr. James (Katherine) Costis; proud grandfather of Christopher, Alex, Pamela, Emma and Nicholas Costis; dear brother of Galatia (the late Niko) Anastassiou, the late Hon. Andreas (Rika), and the late Dionysios (Loulla) Hadjiconstantinou; brother-in-law of Mary (George) Varygiannes, the late Nick (Marilyn) Makropoulos and the late Dr. James (Agnes) March. Dr. Costis was the beloved uncle and cherished friend of many.
In consideration of the current situation surrounding COVID-19, funeral services and interment are private. A public memorial and celebration of Dr. Costis’ life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 South Roselle Road, Palatine, IL 60067.
