Clara lived a life of service, friendship and support to family and others. She was the youngest of seven children born to Henry and Theresa Ritter. She grew up working the fields on a vegetable farm that her parents owned in north St. Louis County, Mo. She was a caretaker for her mother who had suffered a stroke and her father who experienced heart disease. Later Clara worked in the cafeteria of St. Jerome School, which her children attended. Following the sale of the state-owned dairy farm that her husband, William, managed and her family's move to Ventura Drive in Dellwood, MO, Clara began working at Bommarito's bakery. She was the friendly face at the Bommarito counter for several decades. She also maintained a robust garden at the Ventura Drive address and continued to can vegetables, a skill she learned as a child on the farm. Clara enjoyed music, made friends easily and enjoyed dancing throughout her life. In her late seventies Clara moved to St. Patrick's senior apartments in Florissant, MO where she also worked as an assistant manager and offered daily assistance to other residents. At St. Patrick's Clara devoted much of her time to hand-stitching quilts, which were sold at fundraising events in support of St. Ferdinand's parish in Florissant. Clara's family moved her to Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, IL in 2018. There she continued her daily walks, quilting in support of the Linus Foundation, playing cards with friends and giving warm smiles and greetings to all. Clara died peacefully on February 6, 2024.
