I am still in denial about Dan's passing. I shared his August 8 Facebook post and somehow think he had a feeling, unconscious or not, about the time he had left:When I was a kid, I'd climb crab apple trees in Hiawatha Park at lunch time during day camp. My friends and I would find a couple of solid branches, settle in and reach into our duffel bags to enjoy whatever lunch our Mom's prepared. When I went back home I always enjoyed a flaming maple tree in the front yard of my house on Addison street. So over the last few weeks, I planted a crab apple tree and a flaming maple. You can't relive the past but you can recreate it in a new and special way. Nothing is ever behind you, it walks with you. grows old with you and shares your memories.So my memories of Dan and our precious few exchanges lives on in me and hopefully each tear I shed thinking about his untimely passing gives him a little more energy to get to heaven, though a man of that quality surely arrives there in style. Godspeed my Brother.

I'll miss you Dan, deeply. If the Cubbies pull off a repeat next year I'll know you were pulling some strings. I promise to look you up when my turn comes.

Living in california I did'nt see very much of Dan lately.When we were kids we got to see each other once or twice a year.It was always fun talking about relatives of the past.He did a great immitation of my Dad.I wish I could see that immitation one more time.He was a very,very person.When my mom died he wrote a great poem about my Mom.I still have the poem and will post at a later time.Love You always,Dan. I knew Danny growing up, because of our Moms. It broke my heart hearing of his sudden illness, then sudden passing. May God watch over all of you. I'm so, so very sorry for your loss. Michelle ( Trentadue ) Nemecek

Dan you were a great guy who was always willing to help others. All of us that knew you were blessed. Thanks for being a great friend !

Dan worked for me as a software engineer at Abbott Laboratories. He was the most earnest, nicest guy you could meet. He almost killed me when he visited at Lake Forest Hospital after I had an emergency appendectomy. He made me laugh so much that it set my recovery back a few days. Dan was a great guy, and my heart goes out to this wife and family. My prayers are with you.

RIP cousin. The world is a poorer place without you, but better because you were here.
