Dan was raised in Chicago in a loving family. He was the youngest of six children, the son of John and Josephine (McCarthy) Stubing. He was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret (Babe) Wruck, John (Ann) Stubing, Geraldine (Don) Dhamer, Richard (Marge) Stubing, and Joan (John) Thomas.
He attended St. George High School in Evanston to pursue an opportunity to play football, a sport he loved. His God-given talent and dedication earned him a position as a guard at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he played for four years and met the love of his life, Ann. They married soon after and shared 72 treasured years, nurturing a life grounded in faith, family, and love.
Dan built a successful packaging business with his partner and dear friend, Don Klein, where the two worked side by side for many years until their retirement. Known for his strong work ethic and integrity, he took great pride in the relationships he built through his work.
In 1962, Dan and Ann settled in Arlington Heights, Illinois, where they raised their family in the same home for more than six decades. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church and remained active in the parish throughout his life. His Catholic faith was the foundation of who he was and guided him in quiet acts of kindness, humility, and service to others.
Dan was an avid golfer for much of his adult life and especially enjoyed playing with his longtime friends, affectionately known as the “Fearsome Foursome.” These rounds of golf, often accompanied by a cold Schlitz beer, brought him great joy, laughter, and camaraderie.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, and their children: Mary Jo O’Brien (Kevin O’Brien, deceased), Jeanne (Kevin) McAleer, Catherine (James) Seidenglanz, Patricia (John) Samuelian, and Daniel (Beth) Stubing.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Conor, Nora, and William O’Brien; Erin (Phillip), Sean, and Siobhan McAleer; Patty and Katie Seidenglanz; Jack (Ankita) and Gina Samuelian; and Matt (Anna), Nate (Christina), and Annie Stubing.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Sonny, Cal, and Caroline Stubing.
Dan will be remembered for his steady presence, creative problem-solving, his devotion to his family, and the quiet strength of his faith. We take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
