Derek James Tell passed away on October 12, 2023, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born on September 21, 1995, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, to Jim and Sheri Tell and grew up in Palatine.
He is survived by his parents Jim (Kristi) Tell, Sheri (Stuart Brosh) Tell; his siblings Ryan (Kalee) Tell and Karisa (Christopher) Langlo; his grandmother Patricia Tell; his grandfather Richard (Joan Wallis-Poore) Poore; his niece Penny Tell; his nephews Henry and George Tell and Oliver Langlo; and his girlfriend Jasmin Corcuera.
Derek is preceded in death by his grandfather James S. Tell and his grandmother Jacquelyn Poore.
An active member in the sober living community in Milwaukee, and before that in Prescott Valley, Arizona, Derek dedicated his life to helping others struggling with addiction. He is remembered as a sweet, sensitive, and selfless person with a dry wit and a heart of gold. He was happiest in nature, hiking in Arizona, boating in Wisconsin, or just lying on a sandy beach. Derek was also an excellent cook, with knife skills to rival professionally trained chefs. He made everything from buffalo chicken dip to ahi tuna, and he perfected his mom’s salad dressing recipe throughout his life. Derek’s gentle demeanor made him a favorite of the children in his life, especially his niece and nephews.
A visitation will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. Arlington Heights, IL 60004. from 4:00pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 6:00pm.
