Diane Marie Westerkamp

Diane Marie Westerkamp, 69, formerly of Arlington Heights, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2022, in Cary, IL, after a long battle with cancer.

Diane Westerkamp was born on March 2, 1953, in Chicago, IL, to Eugene Bieszczad and Betty Francis.

She graduated from Mother Guerin High School in 1971 and went on to earn a Nursing Degree from Lutheran General and Deaconess Hospitals School of Nursing in 1976. Diane started her career as a Registered Nurse and went on to work for over 40 years, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and as a school nurse at St. James School in Arlington Heights.

Diane met Tom Westerkamp on a blind date in high school, whom she married on September 6, 1980, in St Ferdinand's Church, Chicago. The couple have three children, Laura Filas, Michele Westerkamp, and Christine Westerkamp.

Diane was best known for her generosity, selflessness, kind heart, and strength as well as her love for her family and friends. She loved planning and cooking for family parties. She never hesitated to tell those around her how much she loved them, whether it be a card, note, or text. She has maintained close family ties and lasting friendships that she valued above all else. Her compassion, loyalty, and benevolence will be her legacy.

Diane is survived by her husband Tom Westerkamp: her daughters Laura (Ken) Filas, Michele (Jen) Westerkamp, and Christine Westerkamp; her five grandchildren: Nathan, Logan, Joshua, and Alexandra Filas, and Charlotte Westerkamp.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation from 3:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., Arlington Hts., IL 60004 and from 9:00 am until 10:15 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Rd., Barrington, IL 60010 with Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Committal at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery to be scheduled.
