Don was a devout and faithful follower of Christ, coming to the faith at an early age and staying active in the churches he attended across nearly his entire life. His first home church was the Jefferson Park Bible Church (later the Jefferson Park Evangelical Free Church) and his only other home church was the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church (later The Orchard). He remained engaged and active at church until his very latter years, when his failing health prevented him from doing so.
Don was a very practical person, skilled at nearly every trade one can imagine. He truly enjoyed doing that kind of work. When he was not tinkering on projects around the house, he enjoyed working on the yard and garden at his house.
Don was drafted and served in the US Army, came back home to Chicago and studied mechanical engineering in the School of Engineering at Northwestern University in Evanston, and then took a position in 1958 as a test engineer at John Crane Packing Company in Morton Grove. He rose through the department across the years, ending his 36 years of service with the company in the position of chief test engineer. He was the lead author on a patent application for a product that he helped to design and develop during his time there.
Don was the beloved husband of the late Rebecca and the late Doris; loving father of Sharon (James) Cella and David (Jhennifer) Amundson; cherished grandfather of Emma Haynes, Avery Haynes, Ethan Amundson and Asher Amundson and dear brother of Carol (John Kufner) Pusemp and the late Robert Amundson.
Funeral services and interment will be private.
A public Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
