

Donald D. Barrett Sr.Of Arlington HeightsDonald D. Barrett, Sr. was born on October 21, 1939 in Springfield, Illinois to William and Margaret (nee McConnell) Barrett. He died Monday, March 9, 2015 at his home.Don attended Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral Boy"s High School in Springfield Illinois. While at Cathedral HS, he had one year of band, and four years on the football team. In 1961 he graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. While attending Western Illinois University, he was a member of the schools only undefeated/untied football team in 1959 and he was a member of the swim team all four years.Don earned his Master"s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Illinois in 1966.He joined Arlington High School Township District 214 in 1961 where he taught Practical Arts and was Prospect High School"s 1st swimming coach until 1968. Don worked at Forest View High school Practical Arts Division/Department head until the school"s closing in 1986. While at Forest View HS, he earned his advanced certificate of Study in Education Administration with a Superintendency Endorsement from the University of Illinois. After the closing of Forest View, Don became the Practical Arts Division head at Elk Grove High School, before returning to Prospect High School to classroom teach in 1992, from where he retired in 1994.Don was a Scout Master for Arlington Heights Cub Scout Troop 232 at North School and Boy Scout Troop 132 at Miner Junior High. He served on the board of District 214 Retiree"s Association and was an active member for the Knight"s of Columbus, Holy Rosary Council #4482.Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Roselyn (nee Putting) Barrett: his children, Donald D. (Lori) Barrett, Jr., Robert W. (Susan) Barrett, Lori Barrett (Michael) Sauer, and Steven M. (Shawnee) Barrett; and his grandchildren, Samantha (Tom) Renville, Matthew Barrett , Jonathon and Christopher Barrett, Michael, Jennifer and James Sauer, his brothers Patrick (Marilyn) Barrett and Dennis (Mary Jo) Barrett, his sister Margaret (George) Tregoning.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Jack, Jim, Larry and Thomas "Butch."Visitation from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Monday March 16, 2015 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd.(4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 am Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from the funeral home proceeding to St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Hts.
