

Donald Lee NormanOf Arlington HeightsDonald Lee Norman (90), passed away peacefully on June 8, 2015. Don was a unique, special person who was shaped not only by his numerous accomplishments, but by the many obstacles he overcame during his life. He was a survivor with an unstoppable spirit and determination. As husband to Margaret for 30 years, and father to 6 children, grandfather to 11 and great-grandfather to 4 and a friend to many, he will be dearly missed. He remarked that he was the luckiest man in the world finding two wonderful women (Murph and Muncie) with whom he shared his life and families.Don was born in Fargo ND on July 24, 1924 to Carl and Ida Norman. Supporting himself since age14, he found that his hard work and perseverance were avenues to success. He obtained a BA, LLB and JD degrees from University of Wisconsin/Madison as well as graduate work in the Executive Finance Program at Northwestern University. After working as Staff Attorney and Manager of Legal Affairs for Ryerson Steel Company, he went on to open his own practice in Algonquin and one year later in Arlington Heights where he practiced until 1990. He also was Prosecutor and Acting Village Attorney for the Villages of Wheeling and Buffalo Grove.Don was a member of the Wisconsin, Illinois and American Bar Associations; Co-Founder, First Secretary and Member of the Board of Governors for ten years of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association; member of the Nordic Law Club of Chicago; Founder and President Suburban Prosecutors Association.Besides his law practice, Don was very involved in politics at all levels; Elected Wheeling Township Democratic Committeeman 1973 - 1982; Elected Chairman, 12th Congressional District Delegates to Democratic National Conventional 1978.In his later life, he and Margaret enjoyed winters in Naples, FL, with sunshine and golf. Don's favorite game was cribbage and he challenged every willing partner who walked in the door.Don is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Czapar); his children Steve (Tracy) Norman, Sandy (Ken) Ramsey, Donald Jr. (Karen), Peg (George) Pandaleon, Lynn (Jim) Fisher, Cathy Dinkelkamp; grandchildren Andrew, Donald III, Natalie, Ted, Elizabeth, Christina, Pat, Claire, Sarah, Tim and Rachel; great-grandchildren Lindsay, Lucy, Samuel and Adam.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor, his parents, Carl and Ida, his step?mother, Irma and 3 siblings.Visitation from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Funeral Mass, 10:00 AM, Monday, June 15, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
