

Known by many names throughout his life, including Don, Donush, Moe, Wags, Shoes, Daddy Wags, Dad, Pops, Grandpa. He was a beloved son, husband father, grandfather, relative, and dear friend.
Don was a stellar athlete at Weber High School where he played football and basketball. He worked at Riverview and loved being a “Northsider”
After graduation, Don went to University of Illinois then attended Creighton University and received his associates degree. He enlisted in the Air Force SAC and was honorably discharged in 1966.
After the Air Force, Don studied computers at DeVry and was employed as a systems analyst engineer for 40 years at United Airlines.
Don married the love of his life, Kathe, in 1966 and had three wonderful children.
His sense of humor was legendary; he could make an entire room howl with just a look.
Don was a highly sought after pitcher for his 16-inch softball team the Nomads and a champion bocce player.
Don was fortunate to live a life full of laughter, love and family.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine (nee Garbaciak) sons Robert Wagner, James Wagner and Deborah (Brian) Fors and his grandchildren; Gavin, Hannah and Owen Fors: his brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his uncle’s Edward and Edwin Liska
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Donald’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Family will be receiving guests on Thursday August 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. An additional visitation will take place the following day at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 on Friday August 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Burial immediately following at St. Mary cemetery.
