Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Professor Jack Z. Sissors; loving mother to Debbie (Greg) Klebe and Jeff (Sue) Mell; devoted grandmother to Chris (Shauna) Fitzharris, Lindsey (Adrian) Fitzharris, Lauren (Shane) Pearce, and Nicole (Sam) Gilley; doting great-grandmother to Stanley and Claire Pearce. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Gustav and Etta Stock; and her cousins, Evelyn Knowles and Claire Couch.
The night before Dorothy died, there was a mighty storm—as if the earth was not quite ready to give up such a remarkable force of nature. She did not go quietly into the night, as many do in old age. Instead, she lived as large as she could for as long as she could, zipping around Chicago in her Audi A4 Quattro well into her 80s to get her hair done at the Red Door Salon, or to pop into the Drake Hotel for a spot of lunch. She was a Chicago Dame, and knew the city like the back of her hand. She delighted in regaling her children and grandchildren with stories of the good ol’ days when Macy’s was Marshall Field’s, the Willis Tower was Sears, and there was no better place to be than the Magnificent Mile. She will forever be remembered as “our bonus in life.”
There will be a private interment at Memorial Park in Skokie on Friday, March 8th, 2024 at 1:30 pm, with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
