Douglas A. McLaughlin, 74, a lifelong resident of Chicago, was born on November 13, 1951, in Evanston at St. Francis Hospital to the late Donald and Eleanor (née Rozek) McLaughlin. He passed away on June 3, 2026.
Doug was the beloved husband of Susan (née Pierce) McLaughlin; loving stepfather of Joseph (Brigid) Martin and Thomas (Mary) Martin; cherished grandfather of Sarah, Denis, Edward, Jonathan, and Norah Martin; dear brother of Donald (the late Dorothy) McLaughlin; and caring uncle of Scott (Abi) and Ryan (Veronica) McLaughlin; adored Great-uncle to Sawyer, Lucy and Eleanor.
A friend to many and loved by all who met him, Doug attended Hayt Grade School and St. George High School before graduating from DePaul University. He spent his professional career with Metra Commuter Rail, where he worked as a Grant Coordinator. He also previously served his community as a Precinct Captain in Chicago's 50th Ward.
Doug was passionate about sports. During his years at St. George High School, he wrestled and played football before discovering a lifelong love for baseball. He coached Little League at Pottawattomie Park in Chicago and was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.
His dedication to the game extended well beyond fandom. Doug served as an umpire for high school, little league, and men's league baseball. He was a proud member of the Umpires Protective Association of Chicago (UPAC) for 40 years and served as a former president of the organization.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
