

Edward J. BurczyOf Arlington HeightsEdward J. Burczy was born on July 30, 1936 in Knaze, Poland to Jan and Aniela (nee Piwoda) Burczy. He died Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Arlington Heights.At age three, Mr. Burczy and his family were evacuated from their family farm by the invading Russian Army in 1939. They were transported to St Petersburg, Russia, where they were released. Edward and his parents spent the next 3 years making their way south through Russia to the Russian-Persian border. When the family reached Persia, Edward's father enlisted in the British Army, and Edward and his mother were relocated by the British to a Catholic mission in Tanganyika, Africa. Seven years later, when the war ended, the British reunited the family in England. Two years later, the family emigrated to Chicago.In Chicago, Edward attended Lane Technical High School, where he was captain of the soccer team. After high school, Edward was drafted in to the Army twice, stationed first in Germany, and then at Ft. Riley, Kansas. After returning home from the Army, Edward went to work at American Auto Typist in Chicago, where he met his wife, Erica. After 15 years with the company, he left to found Edward's Business Service. The couple managed the business until they retired in 1987. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Edward was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Edward is survived by his wife Erica, (nee Kozoris); his daughters, Elizabeth Burczy Howes and Caroline Joanne Burczy; and his grandsons William Edward and Charles Conor Howes. Visitation from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, January 30, 2017 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers 8:45 am, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Funeral Home, proceeding to Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights, IL 60005 for Mass at 9:30 am. Entombment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.
