

Edward Charles Mitchell, who was born March 19, 1943 in Palatine Illinois to Paul and Ruth (nee Schoenbeck) Mitchell, and resided most of his married life in Prospect Heights Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at his home in Elgin.
Edward is survived by the love of his life, Mary Dena (nee Tsikretsis) Mitchell, to whom he was married for 56 years. They were a match made in heaven - Edward the country boy from a farm in Arlington Heights, and Mary Dena, the city girl from Forest Park. The couple met on a blind date, were married on August 16th 1964, and never looked back. He is also survived, loved, and greatly missed by his three children and their spouses: Paul (Laurie) Mitchell of Glenview, Nicole (Dave) Hopkins of Geneva, and Jim (Kristine) Mitchell of Cary.
Edward had 10 grandkids, who adored their “Gramps”, and were his treasures: Emily, JT (Abbie), Brent, Kayla, Jeffrey, Conor, and Karlie Mitchell; Alex, Jessica, and Joseph Hopkins. The friendship, camaraderie, and love the grandchildren share for one another is a direct reflection and testament to the love and devotion Edward and Dena shared, and passed on to their family. Edward is also survived by his loving siblings, Thomas (Sue) Mitchell, and Nona (Justin) Howe. Edward also has 14 nieces and nephews who he adored.
Edward graduated from Prospect High School in 1961, and worked in construction before joining Middlestates Telephone Company as a cable splicer in 1964, and then installation / repairmen for Centel Telephone Company in 1966. Towards the end of his career with the telephone company he did a lot of work for the Rosemont Horizon/ Allstate Arena. He retired from AT&T in 2002. His tireless work ethic, selflessness, and integrity remain an inspiration and role model to his children to this day.
In addition to his family, he loved music, particularly “Rock and Roll”, and loved the Stones, especially Keith. He also loved fast cars, hunting, and spending time with his many friends.
There will be a Private funeral service Monday, December 14, 2020 at 10:15am St. Peter Lutheran Church for the immediate family. The service will be live streamed, a link will be provided when it becomes available. Entombment is at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
