Elizabeth R. Lind

Betty was the beloved wife of the late Charles Lind, loving mother of Gregory, Kathryn (Jim) Tousek, Andrew (Sue), and Stephen, and cherished grandmother of Charles, Bradley, Emilia, Rigel, Braden, and Preston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosalia Mueller, and her brothers, Frank (Lorraine) and Paul (Dottie).

Born in Chicago and educated in Catholic schools, Betty loved learning from an early age. She took pride in her schoolwork and maintained perfect attendance throughout grammar school. After graduating from St. Gregory High School in 1953, she earned an associate degree from Wright College. She married Charles on June 18, 1960, and they shared 65 years of marriage.

A devoted Catholic, Betty lived the teaching to love her neighbor as herself. She practiced forgiveness and did not hold grudges, passing those values on through her example. A stay-at-home mother, she welcomed her parents into the family home, including her mother, who lived with them for more than fourteen years. She volunteered for more than a decade as a Cub Scout den mother and worked as an administrative assistant at Allstate until retirement.

Betty loved gardening and flowers, and she was an accomplished seamstress. She also made a Santa suit that became part of a family tradition: every Christmas Eve.

Betty was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and lasting friendships. She remembered birthdays and anniversaries and enjoyed square dancing, bowling, bridge, and was in a women’s investment club.

Betty and Charles shared a love of travel and adventure, visiting all 50 states and six of the seven continents together. From family road trips and RV adventures to journeys around the world, she loved discovering new places and meeting new people. Betty’s warmth and genuine interest in others often turned new acquaintances into lasting friends.

Charles died on September 12, 2025, exactly one year before Betty. Her passing on the first anniversary of his death holds a symbolic meaning for the family, as though the love they shared for 65 years had drawn them together once more. She will be remembered for the steady love and forgiving spirit she shared with her family, friends, and community.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 19, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association to honor of her beloved late husband Charles.
