Frances K. Spencer was born July 8, 1945, in St. Mary's County, Maryland to John and Mary (nee Buss) Keating. She died Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at home in Inverness, Illinois, surrounded by her husband, son and daughter following a brief illness.
Mrs. Spencer worked as a Library Media Specialist for Barrington School District 220 from 1987 until her retirement in 2005. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights, where she volunteered in various capacities, including serving as chair of the family Christmas gift program for Christopher House. Throughout her adult life, Frances regularly volunteered for organizations that served those less fortunate than herself, most recently including the Palatine Township Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, Christopher House in Chicago, and FISH of SANCAP on Sanibel Island, Florida. Frances deeply appreciated the wonders of nature, and was an avid gardener, bird lover and seashell hunter. She loved tennis and baseball, including the Chicago Cubs. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she was also a proud Tarheel basketball fan. She adored her grandchildren, relishing every moment she could spend with them.
Frances is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Ross: children, Mark (Lori) Spencer and Sharon (Timothy Mark) Kellogg; grandchildren, Jane and Molly Kellogg, Daniel and Matthew Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, July 8 at First Presbyterian Church Service at 302 North Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A reception will follow the service, also at the church. Interment is private.
