Gerdon Gundy

Gerdon Gundy, Jr., 93, formerly of Arlington Heights was born on October 22, 1929 in Bloomington, Illinois to Gerdon and Pauline (nee Gittinger) Gundy. He died Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Springs of Vernon Hills Assisted Living, Vernon Hills, Illinois.

Dr. Gundy was a retired school principal of Lincoln Hall Middle School in Lincolnwood, Illinois. Before he became the Principal of the school he was a teacher, a coach and an assistant principal. During the summers he was the Recreational Director of summer camp in Lincolnwood. After his retirement and move to California, he became an Assistant Principal at Stockdale Christian School in Bakersfield, California for 3 years.

Gerdon received his BS from Northern Illinois DeKalb where he was a part of the track team in 1951. He was then drafted into the Army and served as a Reconditioning Medic in France and Germany during the Korean War. After coming home he then went on to receive his Masters degree and then eventually his Doctorate in Education from the University of Illinois in 1965.

On March 25th, 1961 he married Beverly Marie Fischer who was from Ohio. They had 3 children and lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In the years that they were in Arlington Heights, he coached his sons in Baseball, Softball, and Basketball. He was also a member of Rolling Meadows Baptist Church for many years where he taught Sunday School for Junior High boys and then went on to co-teach Juniors and Seniors with his dear wife Beverly. He also served as President of the Board for Meadows Child Center for many years.

Gerdon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly nee Fischer; his children, Karen (Tim) Copeland, Eric (Kathy) and Scott (Jill) Gundy; his grandchildren Ben (Stephanie) Copeland, Josh (Tammy), Jake (Kylee), and Caleb (Katie) Copeland, Andrew (Bev) Gundy, Abi (Simeon) Lićo, and Josiah Gundy; his greatgrandchildren Selah, Noah, Isaiah, and Taytum Copeland, Leeland Gundy, and Gloria Lico; his brothers Jim (Marge), John (Jan), and Robert (Janie) Gundy; and his sisters-in-law Arline and Joann Gundy.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gerdon and Pauline Gundy; and his siblings Roger, and Dick Gundy, and Donna Marie (Roger) Price.

A Celebration of Gerdons Life will be held at 2:00 pm on June 4, 2023 at Meadows Christian Fellowship, 2401 Kirchoff Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 His family will receive guests from 1:00 pm until the time of the Celebration. Private entombment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield, California.
