A Legacy Not to Be Forgotten
Today starts our journey alone, without Jerry. It will be sad, mostly for us, for him faith has brought him peace. He doesn’t need to worry about all of us. He taught us, and showed us all so well, how to live a good life and be a good man. We only need to follow that example. Easier said than done, he made it look effortless, maybe he even wondered why it was so hard for others. There was a theme to his life, service to others, family, friends and country. An unconditional dedication and unselfish point of view that we just don’t see very often in life. It made him a truly special person if you ask me. We don’t see truly special people very often in life. If we are lucky maybe just a few. For me with Jerry gone, I will be looking for someone like him. We all know he as special, it doesn’t need to be explained, we know it. We were all fortunate to have Jerry in our life, how do we move on without him. The greatest tribute I can think of, is trying to be like him. Even as I sit here are write this, I’m not sure where that starts. I won’t pretend to offer any ideas. I do know that today I will be sure to remind myself, and my sons that we were given a gift to celebrate and never to be forgotten. Perhaps today is the last day to be sad, tomorrow is the day to start to be inspired by this life well lived. We have another person to pray to for strength, that should help. Let his deeds in life, lead us and his spirit in life, inspire us. I know that would make him very happy. That’s the least we could so for a man who never asked for anything.

There is one quality, that is Godlier than any other. Love, as it says in John, “God is Love.” On this scale grandpa was closer to God, then all the rest. There are many ways to describe my grandpa, but one stands above all. He was a loving man.
I like to think of God as a sculptor, forming every creation out of a ball of clay. Some creations more like each other, and some, the special ones, God gets artistic inspiration. He makes someone that will be a gift to the world. Grandpa was one of the special ones. So, rare and unique to the world, a true treasure to his friends, and family. When God was in his workshop, forming Grandpa from that clay, He was smiling. He had made someone special.
Grandpa was an amazing man, gifted with more love then the rest. Countless stories can attest to this. It is that presence of love that will see us through this time of grief. Grandpa loved his friends and family unconditionally; the same way God loves every creation. It is the kind of love that can heal all. It is the kind of love every priest, pastor, poet, or writer dream about capturing in their work. It is something that only cliched words, could attempt to describe. Even though grandpa is gone from us, his’ presence remains. It will heal any grief that comes to you. All you must do is close your eyes and let its warmth wash over you.
I will always remember grandpa as a loving man. One of the greatest men I have ever known, and for his 6 children, 11 grandchildren, countless cousins and friends his love will live on in us. We will keep his presence alive in our thoughts, prayers, and actions. It is a task that we all gratefully take on. We are the lucky ones, we got to know grandpa.
Grandpa is in a better place now; he is with the love of his life. Grandma and Grandpa are back side by side, looking down on the amazing family they made. I like to picture when grandpa reached the gates of heaven God was smiling, he has one of his special creations back. I only hope that we all can be half the person that Grandpa was, it is a large task, but his love will guide the way. The memories I have of him are now treasures. I will cherish them forever.

So sorry to hear of another loss for the most excellent Annino family. Your father was such a kind, decent man, whose discipline was of a soft but unshakable sort: you just never wanted to disappoint him. He raised 6 great kids, and now gets his reward with your mom in paradise. So glad I knew him. Rest In Peace. Jeff Guzak
