Formerly of Bloomingdale
Irene H (Stefka) Gawron passed peacefully February 7, 2021. She was beloved wife of the late Richard Gawron, daughter of the late John and Anna Stefka, fond sister of the late John (Carol), Frank (Joanne), Mary (Myles) Kaczmarczyk, Donald (Nancy), loving mother of Patricia (Michael) Grandziel and Bonita (Michael) Launer. She was a doting grandmother to Jeff (Tara), Timothy (Tracie) and Matthew (Victoria) Grandziel, Eric (Kelsey) and Ryan Launer. She was grandmama to David, Arrissa, Andon, McCain, Brayden, Kaylee, Chaye, Payton, Taylor, Graham and Harper. She was Auntie to many nieces and nephews.
Irene will be remembered by her love of life and parties. She was the first on the dance floor at weddings and the last to leave. She loved shopping with her life-long friend, Honey, every Wednesday, She loved to play bingo and pinochle but most of all she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never visited anyone without bringing something (banana bread, cookies). She always had a bag of goodies no matter where she went.
Irene worked for CPS as the Lunchroom Manager first at Orr High School, Brian Piccolo Middle School and then at Hansen Park. She was a dedicated employee and made friends with everyone at the school, custodians, teachers, and the principal, Dr.DePaul.
She became restless during retirement, so she worked at Sam’s Club for many years. She befriended all that she met, and her social network of friends expanded as a result.
Irene never had a cross word to say about anyone. Her name means Peace and she truly exemplified that. The only one she found fault with was the Chicago weatherman.
She will be loved forever and missed by all that knew her.
