Arlington Heights
Formerly from Northbrook, IL
Irene Johanson was born on April 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Oscar and Irene (nee Morrison) Trapp. She married Bert Johanson in 1950 and enjoyed life together for 64 years. She died Thursday, March 5, 2020.
Irene’s greatest joy was being a wife and a mother. Together she and Bert danced through life, hosting parties with friends and family, traveling the world (anywhere there was a golf course for Bert), spending time at their summer and winter home, and raising a family of five. Being a wonderful mother was her gift to her children. She was a strong, independent, happy and kind woman who was always ready to try new thing, go new places, bake a batch of cookies or host a party.
Irene was also a bookkeeper. After going to bookkeeping school, she worked for her father’s business. While raising a family she managed the books for Bert’s construction company. After her family grew up, she worked for a tennis club keeping their books straight, too.
Irene is survived by her children; Rich (Tracy), Liz (Bob) Matz, David (Leslie), Paul (Julie) and Tom (Marla); her grandchildren Seath (Stephanie), Taben (Kristin), Korem, Charles (Katherine), Carol (Kevin), David (fiancé Sarah), Mark (Flora), Andrew (Alexis), Kathryn, Hollis, Neal (Kristin), Eric, Tyler and Michael and her great-grandchildren Elisha, Aiden, Benaiah, Gavin, Aveyla, Dane, Evelyn, Piper, Emily, Ryan and Maisy; she is also survived by her brother Phillip Trapp.
She was preceded in death by her spouse Bert Johanson; her parents; her grandchildren Syrick and Trizah (late Jeffery); as well as her siblings Virginia Anich, Richard Trapp, Walter Trapp and Betty Bentley.
