James Head

James W. HeadOf Arlington Heights James (Jim) W. Head was born May 5, 1931 in Detroit, MI to Wilson and Ruth (nee Rice) Head. He died May 23, 2017 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Jim attended Michigan State University before serving in the Marine Corps. He had a great love of airplanes and joined the Navy to become a Naval Aviator and subsequently joined the Marine Corps, ending as a Captain. He married his true love and best friend Lynn in 1958. He had a long career in marketing and advertising, starting with the AB Dick Company in Detroit. His advertising agency career began with Marsteller, Inc. in 1966 in Chicago and he retired from Grant/Jacoby in 1996.He was an avid golfer who played top courses with famous golfers, including his favorite, Arnold Palmer. He was an accomplished watercolorist and photographer, followed the Cubs and other Chicago teams, as well as Big Ten football and basketball. He was a great storyteller, and spent hours at the kitchen table sharing jokes and business insights with his four children. He spent the last five years at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, where he taught watercolor painting and kept up with family and friends on his Apple computer. An Arlington Heights resident for 51 years, he was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. His greatest pride was his family.Jim is survived by his children, Martha (Daniel) Olsen, Kate Head, Greg (Felicia) Head and Jim (Courtney Potts) Head; his grandchildren Jim Olsen, Ethan Head, Emma Head, Charlie Head, and Gordie Head; his sister Susan (Tom) Marler; his sister in law Gail (Arnie) Morawa and brother in law Bruce (Dianne) Campbell.He was preceded in death by his wife Lynn M. (nee Campbell) Head and by his parents.Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 5:00 PM until the time of memorial service at 7:30 PM, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N.
