James E. O'Connor

Jim was known by all for his positive disposition and eternal optimism. Jim, a United States Air Force Veteran, was a home builder and the owner of O’Connor Custom Carpentry until his retirement in 1985. He was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved sharing stories with his family. He also enjoyed his daily early morning social breakfasts with dear friends at Panera.

Jim is survived by his children Patrick (Diane) O’Connor and Kelly (Don) Emmerling; grandchildren Jim (MaryClare) O’Connor, Katelyn (Payton) Lykins, and David Emmerling; great grandson Danny O’Connor; nephew Timothy (Mary) Campion; niece Ellen (Steve) Schwertfeger; and several great nephews and nieces. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jacquelyn (nee Ellis) in 1990, his parents, his brother John O’Connor, his sister Patricia Campion, and his longtime companion Sue Milburn.

A Celebration of Life will be held for James on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
