James P. Ostler Sr. was born on April 28, 1920 in Melrose Park to Charles and Johanna (nee Murphy) Ostler. He died June 17, 2021 at his home in Arlington Heights.
Jim served his country with distinction during WWII as a Navigator on B-17’s. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the British Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Legion of Honor. Jim worked as a Production Manager for Time Inc. from 1946 until 1985. He was a 65-year resident of Arlington Heights and an active parishioner of St. James. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He enjoyed golfing, playing into his 90’s. Most of all Jim enjoyed being in the company of his family.
James is survived by his children James Jr. (Kathleen) Ostler, Ray (Barbara) Ostler, Thomas (Ky) Ostler, Nancy (Timothy) Carracher, Robert (Carol) Ostler, Katherine (Robert) Carmean and Michael (Jo) Ostler; his grandchildren, Colleen (Kurt) Frieders, Kathleen (Shaun Richman) Ostler, James (Nicole) Ostler III, Douglas Ostler, Kelly (Amy Still) Ostler, Patrick Ostler, Timothy C. (Jessica) Carracher, Christopher S. Carracher, Robert Ostler Jr., James R. Ostler, Elizabeth Ostler and Benjamin Ostler; and his great-grandchildren Susan Audrey, Emma, Rachel Ostler-Still, Reagan Frieders, Audrey Ostler, Bernadette Richman, Declan Ostler and William Ostler.
James is preceded in death by his wife Audrey (nee Cahill) Ostler; his brothers Charles (late Della) Ostler and Fred Ostler.
Visitation Monday, June 21, 2021 from 10:00 am until prayers, 11:15 am at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL proceeding to Funeral Mass 12:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
