Born on April 20, 1956, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Walter Czuj and Eugenia Czuj (Majkowski). She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, learning, and the simple joys of life—values that would guide her throughout her years.
Janet was known for her warm heart and deep affection for animals, especially her beloved pet cats. She found peace and happiness in nature, often spending time hiking, camping, and fishing. Whether surrounded by the quiet of the outdoors or the comfort of her home, Janet carried a gentle spirit that brought ease to those around her.
A lifelong learner and dedicated professional, Janet earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, followed by a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, as well as a Paralegal Studies Certificate. She devoted 20 years as a Spanish teacher at St. Viator High School, where she inspired countless students with her passion for language and learning. Later, she continued her commitment to helping others as a Senior Immigration Paralegal from 2019 to 2025, taking pride in guiding individuals and families as they sought their place in the world.
On June 10, 1984, Janet married the love of her life, Daniel Thomas Tan. Together, they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and family.
Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel Tan; her loving sister, Mary Husfield; her children, Jennifer (Glenn) Tan and Michael (Katy) Tan; and her cherished grandchildren, Amy Zomchek and Lucas Tan. She was a proud and caring mother and grandmother, always offering support, wisdom, and unconditional love.
Janet will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and her unwavering dedication to others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched—as a teacher, a wife, a mother, and a friend.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
