Jan chose to leave high school at the age of sixteen to support her parents and younger sister, which led to a pursuit of a better life for herself. She followed her dream of an office job in downtown Chicago where she met the love of her life, George, her husband of nearly sixty years and created the incredibly beautiful family they have today. Jan dedicated her life to loving her family and friends. She shared her passions for gardening, cooking and baking, especially with her children and grandchildren.
She led the Assumption Parish Garden Club for over nine years. Jan and George received the Christifideles Award from Cardinal Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago which is awarded to those who demonstrate outstanding dedication, personal renewal, and ministerial service within their parish. Jan used the Lord and love to guide her in all aspects of her life. In her last days she used her extraordinary faith and strength to inspire and console all of her family and friends. She has always been the most beautiful, loving, selfless person and a gift to everyone who knew her.
Janice is survived by her loving husband, George Miller Jr.; children, George (Kelly) Miller III and Catherine (James Jr. “Jim”) Hommer; grandchildren, Brendan Miller, Bailey (Kamil Guziolek) Miller, Brady Miller, James “Trey” (Danielle) Homer III, and Abby (Fiancée Adam Pressley) Hommer; great-grandchild, Hayden Hommer; sister Jeanne Gates; and many nieces and nephews.
