

Jay served in the United States Army and worked as a salesman for IBM in Chicago for over 30 years. He was a founding member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Glenview. Jay was a dedicated YMCA handball player and an avid golfer. He is now at peace having seen the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series. Jay loved to spend time with his family and was loved by all.
Jay is survived by his children, Patti (Jamie) Kozlowski, Tom (Beth) Scherer, Peggy (Ross) Diederich, Kevin (Michelle) Scherer, and Jim (Kathy) Scherer; grandchildren, Brian, Bill, and Brett Kozlowski, Mary Therese, Jack, Anne, and Mark Scherer, Mike (Shannon), Sean, and Andrew Diederich, Katie and Chris Scherer; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Blake Diederich.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Ruth Scherer (nee Klatt), as well as, second wife, Mary Pat Scherer (nee Ziegler); his parents; son, John Scherer; granddaughter, Rachel Scherer; brothers, Richard and Jerry Scherer.
Visitation Monday, May 1, 2017 from 9:00am until the 10:00am Funeral Mass at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 3535 Thornwood Ave., Glenview, IL 60025. Interment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
