Jay Laing Toutenhoofd, 77, was born January 1, 1945, in Detroit, MI to William and Virginia (nee Laing) Toutenhoofd. He died Sunday, July 24, 2022, in Barrington, Illinois
.
Mr. Toutenhoofd graduated from Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin. He then attended and graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. After he graduated from college, Jay served in the United States Air force. He was first stationed in San Antonio, Texas for two years then in Anchorage, Alaska where his duty was Purchasing Agent. Jay attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked as an accountant for Motorola then Continental Tire, Automotive Division, in Deer Park, Illinois, for 42 years before retiring in May of 2016. He was a member of Willow Creek Community Church for 30 years, and served as Usher and Count Team leader, and volunteered in many other ministries at Willow. He also served as President of his homeowners association for five years. Jay loved to be the photographer at family and church functions. During his time in the Air Force, he traveled all over Alaska, Japan, Canada, and Germany taking pictures and slides of the sights. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him.
Jay is survived by his wife, Susanne Toutenhoofd (nee Krohn); his brother John and his wife, Jean, Toutenhoofd; Niece Jackie (Toutenhoofd) and her husband Richard Churchill; Nephew Jonathan and his wife, Carrie Toutenhoofd; Great-nephew, Liam Toutenhoofd; his stepsons Daniel C., and William F. King; and his step-grandchildren Samantha and Alex King.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Service begins at 11:15 a.m., Friday September 9, 2022, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Jay’s family will receive guests starting at 10:30 am.
An 11:30 am Graveside Committal Service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
