Jean C. Krieter SLW

Jean C. Krieter SLW was born December 6, 1932 in Evanston to Otto and Elizabeth (Tennant) Krieter and passed away November 28, 2021. Sister Jean attended St. Gregory in Chicago and entered The Sisters of Christian Charity after high school. She received her bachelor's degree from Loyola University in Chicago, graduating Magna Cum Laude and later went on to complete two masters degrees. She taught elementary in Iowa, and Illinois. Later she became a teacher in the Chicago Archdiocesan Deaf school program, and an Instructor of Deaf Education at Loyola and De Paul Universities. She was Dean of Students and teacher at the Josephinum High School in Chicago. In the 1960’s she was instrumental in the renewal of her province according to the 2nd Vatican Council’s directions for the Church. She later was a member of the Founding of the Sisters of the Living Word and was a member of the Leadership as Coordinator of Community Development. In her later years of ministry she fulfilled a dream of working with teens who were struggling. She ministered as head teacher for the Infant Welfare Society’s teen baby nursery in Evanston, IL, and at the House of the Good Shepherd in Chicago. In her last years of ministry she volunteered to help with the infants and toddlers at the teen-baby nursery. Jean was a dedicated, loving and skilled at whatever she did. She is now with God who loved her unconditionally all her life.

Sister Jean is survived by her sister Marion (late Edward) Radzik and was preceded in death by her sisters Dolores (late Joris) van Zinnicq Bergmann and Geraldine (late Robert) Lipke. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Sisters of the Living Word, 950 Lee Street, Suite 200, Des Plaines, IL 60016 appreciated.
