Of Palatine
Jerome J. Brault, Jr. was born on August 31, 1959, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Jerome and Mary (née Landrigan) Brault. He died Monday, November 22, 2021, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois surrounded by his wife and children.
Before retiring, Mr. Brault was a photographer and formerly was a floor trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. He never retired from being an aspiring Jeopardy contestant, though.
He was a 1977 graduate of Loyola Academy. Jerry was a long-time member of the Arlington Heights Knights of Columbus, Holy Rosary Council #4483 and took special interest in supporting the Special Olympics. He was a skilled waterskier, could proudly barefoot until age 50, was an avid golfer, bags player, and dart thrower. Jerry was an accomplished baker (even if his cheesecake always cracked) and enjoyed deep-frying a turkey. He practiced his interest in photography as a hobby for many years before it became his profession. He always had his camera with him and if he was taking pictures with his hat on backwards, you knew he was serious. Jerry was a devoted Chicago sports fan and made it known with his numerous hats, ties, pins, license plate, and basement decor. For those who knew Jerry, his true passion was his family. He supported and loved his family with every piece of his being. He was there for his kids and grandkids whether it was cheering on the sidelines of a soccer game, applauding in the audience of a show, crafting a project in the garage, pulling skiers or tubers behind the boat, playing Rummikub or teaching a new game like Backgammon. Jerry was lucky to go on many adventures with his wife, Giselle: an Alaskan cruise, a trip to Cuba, and a drive to the Lake Geneva ice castles were just a few. Jerry was a simple guy. He loved to laugh. He loved to tell stories (multiple times). He loved his Hawaiian shirts. He loved to love.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Giselle Martinez; his children Ellen (TC) Anderson, Jerome (Susie Kopec) Brault, III, James (Fiancée Shannon Carroll) Brault, and Anna Brault; his grandchildren, Scarlett and Jerome "JJ" Brault, IV; his siblings James (Mimi) Brault, Cathie (John) Murphy, John (Vicki) Brault, Molly (Sean) Ryan, and Eva (Rob) Schmidt, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, November 26, 2021, at the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Private interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Special Olympics Illinois 3000 Central Rd., Rolling Meadows, IL 60008.
