

John A. Butterly, 86, of Wesley Chapel, FL, formerly of Chicago was born Feb. 5, 1924 to the late Mathias F. and Mary R. (nee Kelly) and passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010. John was the beloved husband of Janet nee Truppa; loving father of Richard (Kandy Colleen), Brian (Kathryn) and the late Mark Butterly; cherished grandfather of Mark (Kate), Timm (Bridget), Bridget (fiancé Pat Miner), Rick, Mary Janet and John Butterly; great grandfather of Matthew, Reid, Claire, Delaney, Nora and Emily. Dear brother of Helen (late Jack) Cosgrove and the late Mary Rose (Nick) Steinmetz. Fond uncle of the late Francis Cosgrove and 16 nieces and nephews. Born in Chicago, John moved to Florida in 1980. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in World War II Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant Squad Leader, Company 1, 3rd Battalion, 187th Airborne Infantry which was part of the 11th Airborne Division. He was a firefighter with the City of Chicago and retired in 1980. He was a proud member of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2. John was active in the following organizations; Past Commander of the Chicago Fireman's Post 667; Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2596; past Faithful Navigator of the Father J.J. O'Riordon Assembly in Ft. Myers, FL; Past Chairman of the Lee County Area Intergroup; President of the St. Francis Conference of Saint Vincent De Paul and life member of the Knights of Columbus Staff Sergeant, Stephen Furst Assembly 3036 of Tampa, FL. John was a friend of Bill W. for 51 years. Visitation Thursday Nov.11, 2010 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home 2000 E. Northwest Hwy. Arlington Hts. Funeral Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 will begin with prayers at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home and continue to St. James Church 831 N. Arlington Hts.
