John L. Cabanski was born on December 9,1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward Andrew and Frances Dorothy (nee Szplett) Cabanski. He died Friday, October 29, 2021 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. John is survived by his spouse of 59 years Karen Ann Cabanski (nee Czachowski); loving father to daughter Mary Frances (John) Baumeister; and son Paul Lawrence Cabanski. He was also the world's best Papa and wingman to his grandchildren, Griffin, Audrey and Grace. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Pam) Cabanski; and many nieces and nephews.
He lived life to the fullest and made many life-long friends from The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, St. Mel High School, Knights of Columbus, Illinois Watch and Clock Club, Northwest Model Engineers Club, Trout Unlimited, and the Northshore Iris and Daylily Society.
John was chemist at Helene Curtis, Valspar Paint, and Fel-Pro/Federal Mogul in Skokie. During his work career he had fun working out at the Fel-Pro health club and RRR mini farms. When he retired he always enjoyed getting together at the Fel-Pro retiree breakfasts. He was known as "The Commodore" and "Cadillac Cabanski".
John had many hobbies, loved reading and history, making a great pot of soup and traveling to Minnesota and Florida. His favorite hangouts were Panera for his unlimited coffee and breakfast with the boys at Burger King. John was always fun to be around, a fantastic teacher when passing on information from things he had learned along the way, quick with a joke and loved the art of negotiation with others who loved it as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings Eugene (late Bea) Cabanski, Edward Cabanski and Mary Frances Cabanski.
Visitation Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004 and on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Raymond de Pentafort Catholic Church, 301 South I-Oka, Mount Prospect, IL 60056. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
