John Edward Dalton passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026. He was 75 years old. In his final chapter, John found relief from the discomfort of prolonged health problems and enjoyed the affable disposition that earned him many dear friendships throughout his life. He was a generous listener and had an irreverent sense of humor.
John was born December 4, 1950 in Chicago. At age 18 he met his college sweetheart, Barbara Ann Dalton (nee Zaabel), at Loyola University Chicago. John and Barb stayed near the campus until John earned a doctorate in psychology. They moved to Lake County to raise two children, Scott Walter Dalton and Kathleen (Kate) Elizabeth Bachtell (nee Dalton). John went on to establish a private practice in clinical psychology and, in the last decade of his career, served as a psychologist for Naval Station Great Lakes - the largest training station and singular boot camp for the U.S. Navy.
With his passing, John joins beloved memories of his sister Caryl Joy (nee Dalton), brother Harold (Hal) Dalton, and parents Harold and Celestin (Sally) Dalton (nee Adam).
John is survived by his wife; two children and their spouses, Ashley Dalton and Brett Bachtell; six grandchildren, Landon Bachtell, Lucy Dalton, Mallory Bachtell, William Bachtell, Walter Dalton, and Rosie Dalton; 18 nieces and nephews and their families; and many dear friends.
