John Harissis

Of Arlington Heights

Ioannis John Harissis was born on October 29, 1950, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Nikolaos and Vasiliki (nee Koukoulis) Harissis. He died Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Park Ridge, Illinois.

John moved to Chicago from Greece in his early 20s and worked most of his life as a painter, carpenter, tile setter, and in other construction work. He was the king of Dad Jokes, always making others laugh and brightening the room with his infectious smile. He loved to play poker and watch the Chicago Bears (even when they suck). John was generous and welcoming to all who crossed his path. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his children, Vasiliki (Vicki), Stavroula (Stacie), and Niko; grandchildren Kimara and Aveya; parents Nikolaos and Vasiliki; and brother, Konstantinos (Gus).

Visitation Monday, June 28, 2021, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 South Roselle Road, Palatine, IL 60067. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
