So very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad.  I know he is still singing Irish songs and smiling down on all of you from heaven.   My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

John was my Godfather, and a better one I could not imagine. He always believed the best in people. He was Light in his presence and in his words. I've kept him in my prayers daily for the last several years especially. He wrote to me often when I was away from home, and always wanted to keep me in the loop. I miss him dearly, and was truly sorry not to be with you all when you gathered for his memory.

Our family enjoyed being neighbors with your family for almost 40 years.  Your dad and mom were always near for help at any time or just a friendly chat.  We were glad to see all of you at your dad's wake, even though it was a sad occasion.  Afterwards, we realized we hadn't signed the guest book, so we thought we'd add this note. John was like a light house, his personage was ever so bright. at  the Monday breakfast at West Chicago .it was so delightful to see, and to hear his voice.He was the historian for the old heads and he knew practically every one and we enjoyed when he would occasionlly sing and Irish tune. John is now in Heaven and no doubt leads the choir, I will and have missed him

I remember your family so well as our neighbors and friends on Ozark (I babysat for some of you), when we moved to Park Ridge and you to Arlington Heights, and even later when I saw your parents at various Gauger family gatherings. Both your parents were "go to" people for various things. Generous, loving, friendly, spiritual, of good humor . . . I will pray that you all have beautiful memories to cling to as you adjust to life without you dad present to you here. It is still Easter and your dad has experienced his personal Resurrection.

John was always a smiling face at the 'Breakfast Club', in West Chicago, every Monday morning.  I can clearly describe him as an Irish Gentleman through and through.

I remember John as a good, kind, and sharp witted gentleman.  He epitomized what was great about the Chicago & North Western.  I will offer a Mass and a rosary in memory of this wonderful man.  My condolences to his family and friends.

One of the gaps that need to be bridged in companies like a railroad is that between managers in the field and those at "HQ". For many of us at the CNW John was that bridge and those of us in the field, as well as the CNW itself and by extension, the UP were the beneficiaries. RIP, John; you left things better than you found them.  -ooo

Kevin and David (just to name the sons I know) - This is a great loss for me and for many others.  John was a colleague, confidant and friend for 48 years, and I will miss him deeply.  But it was time to go, and John knew it, at age 90, no complaints!  He's now with Myrtle, but a huge loss to those of us on earth.
