

John A. LuetjeFormerly of Naperville, ILJohn A. Luetje was born on July 12, 1932 in Glidden, Iowa to Adolph and Lulu (nee Herrig) Luetje. After an evening of listening to hymns, he peacefully moved on to living the Good Life Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Arlington Heights.John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 196 in Westside, Iowa. After returning home, he hauled cattle from Iowa to The Chicago Stockyards and then was hired by P.I.E. to drive west coast runs. He went on to be the proud owner of The Village Inn and even prouder firefighter for the Village of Summit. He enjoyed the outdoors with things such as fishing and hunting, watching birds both big and small and feeding the ground squirrels by his apartment. He enjoyed listening to and watching the St. Louis Cardinals; a team he learned to love from his early days in Iowa. He had the thrill of a lifetime being at the game when they won the 2006 World Series. He was part of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association and volunteered by going to many health fairs. He was a member at Zion Lutheran Church, Summit, IL where over the years he served both on the school board and the church board. John loved to spend time with his family and friends, both near and far. He is well remembered for always having stories and jokes to share and was loved by all.John is survived by his daughters, Anita (Thomas) Keith and stepdaughter, Linda (Robert) Gerke, granddog, Shelby Keith; grandchildren, Claire Gerke, Dean (Jeana Benton) Gerke, Sondra Gerke and Lois Gerke; great-grandchildren, Cody Gerke Bethany Stewart and Kayla Stewart; brothers, Melvin (Burnilea) Luetje, Emil Luetje, Arnold (Paulette) Luetje; and brother-in-law, Lee Nobiling; a cousin, Genevieve Horst, and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; granddogs, Hab Keith and Drac Keith; sister, Luetta Nobiling; and sister-in-law, Diane Luetje.Visitation Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Visitation 12:00 pm Wednesday, August 31, 2016 until the 1:00 pm Funeral Service at Chapel of St. John The Beloved, at Lutheran Home and Services, 800 West Oakton, Arlington Hts., IL 60004.
