Of Arlington Heights
John J. Petermann was born on May 27, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to John A. and Dorothy (nee Lucchetti) Petermann. He passed away October 4, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. John passed away from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), which is an Atypical Parkinsonian Disorder.
John had a 40-year career with Dominick’s Finer Foods servicing Chicagoland communities, most recently serving as a Store Manager. John had a very easy way about him. People felt his easy acceptance and interest along with enjoying his sense of humor.
Hockey was a big part of John’s life. He was a UIC collegiate hockey player and was also an enthusiastic Chicago Blackhawks, Bears and White Sox fan. John was a lifelong dedicated fan of music in general but specifically Pink Floyd.
John did not let the limitations he had stop him from doing everything he wanted. He never complained and was very accepting of his condition. John’s last trip was to Arizona for a Chicago Blackhawks hockey game with his buddies in January.
John loved his three sons and enjoyed their individuality. He was an involved father, helping with coaching, playing frisbee or singing Take Me Out To The Ballgame to the kids while rocking them as infants.
John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Cecile M. (nee Troxell) Petermann; his dearly loved sons Jeffrey M. and Daniel R. Petermann; his siblings Nancy Pawlikowski, Thomas (Linda) Petermann, Mary “Chris” (late Lawrence) Ghidara, James (Mary) Petermann and Michael (Victoria) Petermann. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
John was blessed with lifelong genuine friendships. These friends provided love, laughter and inclusion throughout his journey.
He was preceded in death by his son Joseph D. Petermann as well as his parents.
