John Robert Simmons

John Robert Simmons was born June 5, 1928 in Chicago, the son of John Sr. and Frances Simmons. He died Saturday, September 9, 2023 in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Simmons graduated college from the University of Illinois with a degree in Business Management. This led to a successful career of 42 years with Benefit Trust Life Insurance Company as Vice President of Claims. Early in his career, John earned the professional designation of CLU (Claim Life Underwriter). He also served a term as President of the Chicago Claims Association and was an avid member of the professional speaking organization, Toastmasters. Upon retirement, John served his community as a volunteer for 21 years helping local senior citizens with their annual tax preparation – something he really enjoyed. His hobbies in retirement included golf, volleyball, boating, and playing poker with friends.

John married Norma Jean Traise in 1953 and they went on to have three sons. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

John is best described as a true family man. He worked hard his entire life to ensure his family was cared for, their home was well maintained, and that each of his sons received the guidance throughout their educational years each needed to ensure they were equipped for success in life. John was a quiet man with a huge heart who loved his family above all else. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean Simmons, their sons and their wives: James & Annie Simmons, Garry & Sheri Simmons, and William & Markie Simmons; three granddaughters: Samantha and her husband Jonathan Colatorti, Meghan Simmons, Olivia Simmons, and a great granddaughter, Emma Colatorti.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in the Chapel at The Moorings, 811 E. Central Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005
