Joseph J. Colangelo passed away on May 3rd, 2023. He was born on July 7th, 1956 in Chicago, IL to George and Carmen Colangelo.
He is survived by his sons Clifford and Anthony Colangelo, his loving partner Beth DeWitt, his siblings Mary (Gene) Childers, Georgiann (Barry) Krulewitch and Chris (Karole) Colangelo, his step-children Nicholas Ludford, Justin (Jacqulyn) Bolejack, Tyler Bolejack and Kailey Torres, his grandchildren Riley, Kenzie and Gianna, his nieces and nephews Christopher (Stephanie) Childers, Elizabeth (Christopher) Hamilton, Grace Colangelo and William Colangelo, and his great-nephew Evan Hamilton and great-niece Morgan Childers.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Joe’s number one priority was his sons and his family, and he loved being a Papa to his grandchildren.
He was the kind of person that would always do anything for his family and friends with no questions asked. He had friendships that lasted 50 plus years.
He enjoyed traveling and being able to see the world beyond his home. Including a trip that he just returned home from with his partner, Beth.
An avid fan of Chicago sports, he enjoyed watching and attending Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Cubs games.
He liked to play the drums and enjoyed listening to the band Chicago and went to see the band “a million times.”
A former Boy Scout, he later took on the role of a Scout Master for his children. With his guidance, his son Anthony was able to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
He loved telling “dad jokes” which have come to be known as “Joe Jokes.”
Considered a human atlas, his sons graced him with the nicknamed “Joe Quest.”
A car and motorcycle enthusiast, in some cases he was reluctant to part ways with some old broken cars, opting to try and instead keep them running for as long as possible. (“Let the Mulch-Mobile go!”)
A loyal and hardworking man, he worked for 48 years, employed by the same company through its many owners. He started off working in the warehouse and worked his way up to becoming the Senior Manager of National Accounts for Equipment Depot.
If there is one lesson you should take from him, it’s that you should learn how to “grab the bull by the horns.”
He will be missed greatly by all that know him, as he touched a lot of lives.
Dad, Papa, Joe we love you.
