Joseph Thomas Cunningham

Joe was raised on Somerville MA, where he worked on the docks loading and unloading ships, and on the line at a Ford. Knowing that to get off the factory floor and up with the guys in white shirts in air conditioning required an education, he joined the US Army’s ROTC to pay his tuition at Boston College. Upon graduation he completed his duty as an artillery officer and returned to work for Ford for 35 years in Michigan. He retired in 1994 in West Bloomfield, MI where he’d raised his family then moved to Lake Doster in Kalamazoo and ultimately settled in Arlington Heights, Il in 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Mary Ann (Mirabello) and their children: Eileen M. Eckstein (wife of Ronald), Michael J. Cunningham (and Hae Ok), Thomas P. Cunningham (and Susan), John G. Cunningham (former spouse, Leslie), Patrice M. Gorzalski (wife of John), and Maria A. Clark (wife of Christopher), 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Family will be receiving guests on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 11:00 AM until Noon at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A funeral service will take place at Noon that same Monday, February 3, 2025 also at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
