Born on March 23, 1933 to Joseph L. and Violet (Fanelli) Leonardo, Joe grew up in Chicago, where he attended Austin High School. In 1957, he proudly answered the call to serve his country after being drafted into the United States Army. During his service, he earned a certification as an electrician, a skill that reflected his lifelong work ethic and determination.
Joe spent the majority of his professional career in the automobile industry, where he built a respected career and even fulfilled the dream of owning his own dealership during the 1980s. He approached his work with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to providing for his family.
On November 26, 1960, Joe married the love of his life, Frances C. (Cirrincione) Leonardo. Together they shared nearly sixty wonderful years of marriage before Frances preceded him in death on November 23, 2020, just three days shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was built on love, devotion, and the joy of raising a beautiful family together. Joe was an active member of the Italian American Veterans Association and generously volunteered his time at Hines VA Hospital, always eager to give back to fellow veterans and his community.
Above all else, Joe's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love knew no bounds. He often said that his four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren were his greatest accomplishments. Whether sharing stories, celebrating milestones, or simply spending time together, his family always came first.
Joe had a remarkable ability to make others smile. He was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and his habit of lifting the spirits of everyone around him. Never one to seek attention for himself, Joe found happiness in making others laugh and feel welcome. His kindness, generosity, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances C. (Cirrincione) Leonardo. He is lovingly survived by his children, Katherine A. Barone (Frank Contine), Angela Leonardo Stubbs (Phil ), Joseph D. Leonardo (Jane), and Dana A. Wycoff (Matt); his cherished grandchildren, John Barone (Kristen), Jordan Zeddies (Evan), Joseph R. Leonardo, Samuel L. Stubbs, Gianna M. Leonardo, Daniel M. Wycoff, and Rocco V. Leonardo; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Emilia M. Barone, Cassidy M. Zeddies, and John V. Barone.
Joe will be remembered for his generous heart, contagious sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
