Josephine Ryan, a native of Chicago, and later resident of Arlington Heights and Wheeling, IL, passed away on July 8, 2021, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by Michael Ryan, her husband of 51 years, and by four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her sons Marty Ryan and Mike (Kristen) Ryan, her three grandchildren Zoe, Lily and Joel Ryan, her sister, Florence O’Neill, her brother, Don Moravec, and countless nieces and nephews, to whom she was known as Aunt Jo.
Josephine had three overriding passions in her life. She was a devout Catholic who attended church several times per week at her home parish of St. Cecilia’s in Mt. Prospect, and was active in that church (she counted the collection money at one point). Also, she was a devoted mother to her sons, and (as Aunt Jo) she unfailingly sent (in the era before computers) birthday cards to her many nieces and nephews, all of whose birthdays she remembered. Last, but probably not least, Josephine was an ardent fan of her beloved Chicago Cubs; she imparted a love of both the Cubs and of baseball to her sons, and took them to games during the summers. Needless to say, she was very happy that she saw the Cubs win a World Series in her lifetime.
While not yet scheduled, a memorial service in her honor will be held during the late summer or early fall of 2021.
